Open The Present
People come sit in my house where I feed them tea and they tell me, “Nightmare, I’m full of fears.” What kind of fears? All kinds of fears. A difficult conversation. An impending breakup. One looming mountain. A haunting feeling that something just isn’t right.
“Nightmare, I don’t feel like myself. I can’t work, I can’t focus, I can’t sleep, I can’t climb, I can’t relax with the people I love.”
Working is important, just as is focus, sleeping, climbing and relaxing. And most people think, if I can just help them do the one lil tiny simple, I mean HUGE, thing they are afraid of [talk, break up, mountain, become un-haunted] then they will get back to the easy stuff. The working, the focusing, the sleeping, the climbing, the relaxing.
I’m so sorry to let you know: I can’t help you with that.
I can’t help you stuff down your fears just for the sake of accomplishment. I can’t help you force your body to do something your fears, your body, your entire spiritual being tied up in a panic attack, is preventing you from doing.
I can help you learn to relate to fear so you can come into a natural and easy collaboration with this venerable force. Through a respectful alliance with fear you get to align your dreams with what actually works for your body and your life path.
Fear isn’t here to stop you from pursuing your dreams and desires. Fear is here to take you to a feeling of deep, rewarding embodiment. Embodiment is true, unshakeable knowingness of your values, body and psyche, and acting according to their precise invitation.
Fear is a gift that would like to be opened.
